Christmas Tree Shortage!!

First the pumpkin patch – now our beloved Christmas trees!   They are one of many “crops” that are not producing due to the drought across the country.  The lack of water in many states is making some farmers believe they may have to shut down their businesses in the next few years if the dry conditions continue.   This years retailers won’t see much of a difference, since it will take a few years to really notice the change in tree numbers.

I guess they can ship trees from other countries if the supply dwindles.     I wonder if they will put tags stating  “This tree was made in Canada, Europe or Asia”….

There’s always the fake-fir tree option too.

Finally – and more importantly,  this might give those  “Charlie Brown Christmas Trees” the respect they deserve!   It’s not how the tree looks, but ultimately how much TLC the tree gets from its owners!   Tree-mendous!

JD, Exactly…No matter the tree OR lack there of, love is what matters most. Over the last few years, our family has scaled back gift giving to each other and in turn, adopted a Holiday family that’s less fortunate. This is also a great time of year for what my buddy coined the “Trash Can Tango”… take a day to gather up all the things you don’t use that could be of value to someone in need and donate. There’s no better feeling. RP

Ryan,
What a great idea. Yes, tis the season for helping others. It’s the best way to give and feel great about it. You lead by example. Thank you for reminding us of that.

I think the tree business is doing fairly well out here in Montana. But yeah, we opt for the fake tree. Just a lot easier clean up and take care of.

It looks like those Santa Anna’s should die down over night tonight. That ridge isnt that strong. Did you see on the 1st that a Colorado low develops that could turn into a really bad system? I love forecasting winter time weather….its just more dynamic.

Anywho….dont forget about us up here, I saw yesterday that you had Great Falls on the weather map. Too cool.

Take care,

Shout out to Great Falls! Yes, watching that low develop into something pretty interesting…maybe some ice storm action in the Midwest?

I didn’t even think about a Christmas tree shortage. Just never crossed my mind.

We’ll be going to the tree farm this weekend. It’ll probably be 75 degrees! It’s just not right to shop for a tree while wearing shorts!

Christmas tree shopping in 75 degree weather! I remember doing that when I lived in Houston. It is strange isn’t it?

Hey, Janice:

If the trees get imported from China, does that mean we have to be careful for possible lead contamination?

How sad, poor tree farmers. They have one crop and bam. We use a fake one, since most of us are allergic to real ones. I do love Charlie Brown! JD I caught you this morning, good to see you on TV!

I have to draw the line when live Christmas trees start coming from China! I’ve always been fond of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree, all it needs is a little love :)

I think my favorite Holiday program is and always has been A Charlie Brown Christmas. Snoopy is a riot.

Hey, Janice:

I just realized that Snoopy is a veteran of WW I! He is probably America’s oldest WW I combat ace because of his dog fights (no pun intended) with the Red Baron (Manfred Von Ritchtoffen).

BTW-It has been said that the Red Baron was defeated by RFC pilot Brown from….CANADA!
