Hello Pablo??
Can you believe we might squeeze one more tropical storm out of this season? Yes, it looks like “Pablo” might just come out before New Years in the Atlantic. I have to admit my enthusiastic forecasting buddy Boris was the one who emailed me about the tropical activity. It’s way out in the Atlantic and starting to show signs of tropical characteristics as it meanders in the middle of the Ocean. Wind shear (the winds in the upper levels that can tear storms apart) should be low enough to get this storm up to speed, and will likely become Subtropical. (meaning it’s kind of a hybrid between a tropical storm an extra-tropical system that we typically see)
Computer models don’t show this thing moving too much over the next few days, but then it will make a push towards Puerto Rico. It doesn’t look like the storm will affect any land, but certainly for weather geeks like me, this is pretty darn COOL!
If it gets named, I’ll let you know. In other news, once this cold snap is over, we could be seeing thing warm up signficantly for the month of January – perhaps even record-breaking. And it also looks like Boston will break the record for the snowiest December with the next storm moving in tonight and tomorrow….
Fun stuff! I’ll keep you posted on Pablo!

Happy New Year Janice and All!! Maybe in the next few hours one more named storm will squeeze out. It would mean a little less egg on the faces of the storm forecasters that predicted the above average number of named storms. Even if Pablo does come to life, they are having to GAG on their WAG (Wild A** Guess)!
I hope you had a very Merry Christmas. Here in Camp Speicher they fed us well! We all miss home, but after New Years day, it will be down hill for us to head home.
Have a fun and safe New Years Eve, and a wonderful New Years Day, and a fantastic 2008.
