Ccccccccold!!
Brrrrrrrrrr! is all I have to say. The coldest air so far this season has moved on in. Some areas are experiencing temperatures 25 degrees below normal with windchills that are downright dangerous! Frrrrrrreeeezing temperatures as far south as the Gulf Coast…
Since weather affects voter turnout, there’s a bit of concern with what Iowa will look like tomorrow. The good news is there is no major snow in the forecast, but the cold will be the story with temperatures dropping to near zero by sunrise. Highs will be in the 20s across the state but with gusty winds from the northwest, it will feel much colder than that. Temps at night will be in the teens with windchills hovering around zero.
Another big story is the parade of storms that is set to move into the west bringing significant rain and snow. We could see upwards of 4 inches of rain along coastal Northern California and 8 inches in the valley/mountain regions. Snow could total close to 8 fee over the highest elevations of the Sierra Nevada. This could be one for record books. Stay tuned!
Even Chilly Willy needs to warm up!!

Afternoon Janice!!
All set and ready for the cold blast here in CT with my herbal tea. And for all the fun I had in Hawaii, I know have a decent head cold that will keep in indoors out of the frigid temps! Talk about sitting on a plane infront of another passenger who is hacking away.OY VEY!!
Stay Warm!
Dawn
Take care of that cold. I had the same thing happen to me over the summer – a few days after a horrible flight full of sick people and kids I got a flu that had me out of work for a week. Over-dose on that vitamin C Dawn!
You always find the cutest pictures. And thanks a bunch! Just want I want to hear! Tons of storms heading my way…but memories of Iowa winters and all that c-c-c-cold…I’ll take the rain!
Happy New Year everyone.
Now Janice I’m disappointed in you, the hardy Canadian that you are you should be use to these temperatures. Did you see the outdoor hockey game from Buffalo yesterday?
I can’t remember this much snow for December, here in Upstate New York, for a long, long time. Not only the snow, but also the wacky temperature changes. I guess ’tis the season, huh?
E-mail addresses appear to you when you read these messages…………..I wish I had an e-mail address to send weather related pictures directly to you, or just the weather department. Is there one?
Hey Bill..
Why don’t you send your pics to ureport@foxnews.com and address them to me? That might work. Let me know. I did watch that hockey game. Awesome game, and I loved it that they played outside. Yes, I’m a wuss when it comes to cold! Not afraid to admit that
First…Happy New Year Janice! You and Dominica are two of the most precious weather ladies on the planet!
I just returned from shopping for food, and lordy, everyone but me was wearing long pants, coats, some had hoods on, etc. Me, I stuck to wearing shorts and one of my Alaskan sweatshirts. Everyone looked at me kinda funny?
Where am I you ask?
Nate Adams in North Tampa….where it is colder than South Tampa!
Hey Nathan! Yup you’ve got a freeze warning and some windchill advisories up to! One of the forecasters along the east coast of Florida is calling for a few snowflakes tonight or tomorrow!! Say it aint so!
Be careful out there!
Hi Janice, and Happy New Year to you! Stay warm! Cold is cold no matter where you are from. I see that down home in Alabama and Georgia it is dipping into the teens. Here in Northern Iraq we have had days in the 7o’s and nights as low as the upper 20’s, but mostly in the mid 30’s. When the sun goes down, so do the temps!
We brought in 2008 here 8 hours before you did. It was pretty low key. At midnight there was nothing but erie silence. I was expecting something like some horns, people cheering, but there was nothing! We have one guy with us that was in Vietnam. he said when it was new years there, there were flares and tracers all in the sky, machine guns & rifles firing, anything that would make noise. I guess it’s a different war, and a different Army.
Happy New Year!!
Good to hear from you Thomas! Bless you and all your friends overseas. Let’s hope 2008 brings good things to all our troops in Iraq…maybe a safe trip home soon.
Hey Janice. When are you gonna go on Red Eye again? It seems like forever. You’re hilarious on the show!
Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s nice of you Paul. I don’t know why they haven’t asked either. I hope I didn’t wear out my welcome!
It is really cold in Central Texas, the north wind chill has got to be low. The chichuahua refused to go out this morning, I had to chase him down twice.
Ha! does your little pooch have a little coat to wear outside Kathy? Poor little guy!
Hi Janice,
You are the best weather reporter. They are so lucky to have you.
Happy New Year,
Evelyn
AZ
It’s warming up here in Scottsdale AZ. Finally it was 56 this morning at 5:30. We had such a cold week last week.
I’m from Michigan and now I love Arizona,
Keep up the great work,
Evelyn
AZ
Awww Evelyn! Thanks for the sweet words! I LOVE Arizona. We go every year to visit. That is is certainly chilly for them! Keep the extra blanket on the bed tonight!
Wow hey thanks for responding Ms. Dean! You’ve got alot of fans over at reportercaps.com!
So um, when you’re on TV, do you get nervous, especially live tv?
BTW, I don’t know if this is the best place for asking, but when is Julie Banderas coming back and will she ever have her own blog?
Hey Paul,
Thanks for the kind words! I’ll have to check that site out! Yes, I still get nervous! Sometimes it just comes out of nowhere and I realize that people are watching me! Someone once told me that the day you don’t get nervous is the day you should get out of the business. I work with great people, so that is a big help overcoming the butterflies. As for Julie, I think she’s back this weekend from vacation. Not sure about the blog–don’t see her that much but if I do I will ask her.
Hey Janice not everyone was Brrrrrr-ing today. We here in Great Falls hit 57. I was walking around with a tee shirt on and sandals.
You’re right David. It is pretty balmy out there. It’s going to feel like springtime for much of the country by this weekend!
Janice,
Damned you were sooo right:
it is freeeezing cold in NY tonight!
See this is the problem I have: I still can’t figure out really what numbers mean when the weather forecast tells me 50 degree, 40 degree or 30 degree.
The fact I grew up in another part of the world where they use a whole different degree system didn’t help!
(by the way, why are we using the degree Fahrenheit system in the US to measure temperature instead of the international degree Celsius system???!)
That reminded me an old little lady who lives in my building and who was complaining the other day that the New York Times doesn’t put anymore the temperature of the previous day on the corner of their first page.
You can still read the temperature of today, tonight and tomorrow. But not of yesterday.
She was annoyed because she claimed the only way in the morning she could really have an idea of what the temperature felt like outside was to compare the degree number with the one of the day before!
It’s only tonight that I fully understand the logic of her argument: the comparison of those numbers would have make more sense to me too!
Next time I see her, I’ll tell her to watch the Weather Machine.
I’m complaining about NY but I’m dying to see the Latte experiment you asked Bill to perform tomorrow in Un Moine, ooops I mean Des Moines, Iowa…
Guillaume
Ha! Good stuff Guillaume. I like the logic in that too looking at what the temperature was the day before. I wonder why they stopped doing that. Not sure about the imperial system vs. the metric system. I think for a time the U.S. was thinking of switching over, but that would cost an absolute fortune changing everything from roadsigns to the speedometers. Yes, that experiment with the hot water being thrown in the air I think has to be when the temperature is around -20 for it to work…it skips phases and goes from hot water to vapor instantly! It’s really really cool!
Hi Janice, it is cold everywhere ! !, Including here in the U.K , minus 3 today , OMG it is suposed to snow tonight, YEA then i could use that as an reason not to go to work in the morning LOL !, Have a great day and stay warm J.D and all at FNC, Break out the marshmellows & hot chocolate huh !
Richard , London UK
Love the hot chocolate with Marshmellows Richard! Yum.
He has one, but he still chivers. Then runs to the bed with the electric blanket.
Ha! Kathy you gave me a good laugh with that comment!
Love the Chilly Willy references havent seen that penguin for ages
I love him too. I’m glad I had a chance to post a couple of memorable “Chilly” moments…
