24 hours on the job! Literally….
This is officially my longest day on the Fox News Channel. I started at 6am (doing weather on Fox and Friends) , and I’m back to do overnight news cut-ins! One of our lovely anchors is not feeling well, so I got the call to see if I would be crazy enough to come back and do some news! I don’t get to do it very often, so I said “what the heck”…not fully realizing that I will be up for 24 hours straight by the time I get out of here. Not sure how I’m going to feel at midnight when a lot of the newsroom gets quiet. Right now it’s still buzzing with Hannity and Colmes and Greta coming up. She’s live here in New York, so I got to say hi to her inbetween her cell and blackberry messaging. I think in the dictionary next to the definition of multi-tasking: is a picture of Greta.
Anyhow, thought I would check in and say hello. I’m tempted to raid the vending machine and get many chocolate bars and bags of potato chips….but I know that would be bad. It would taste so good though…Darn those New Years Resolutions! Calories don’t count if you eat when you should really be sleeping, right? My brain synapses are starting to fizzle….
You might see a few posts from me tonight….:) And they might get scarier as the night goes on…
mmmmm…..this might be in my future:

Hey Janice!
Wow, it sounds like you’ve had a super long day, and week, for that matter. And it looks like it’s going to get longer, judging by your post. That’s amazing that you can stay up and still be working for that many hours straight! Good luck on not falling asleep! Oh, and if for any reason you can’t eat all of that candy, I’ll be glad to take some of it for ya…
Thanks for the sweet reply earlier today, and have a terrific weekend!
Hang in there Janice.Someday you’ll look back on this as a fun story to tell. You’ll get through this you’re young.
Janice!!
Just saw you doing the newscast for Greta, what a surprise!
You were perfect!
VERY professional!!!
You should do it more often.
Guillaume
Thanks Guilaume, Allen and Justin! It was pretty tough, but I managed to stay awake. I slept all day yesterday though!
I was just coming to The Machine Blog to say it was a nice surprise to see you on updates.
You know maybe a couple of sodas along with those candy bars will help keep you up. If not from a sugar high, then with a upset stomach. Whatever works, right?
I’ll be up…I’m a Red Eye watcher (you should do that show someday, by the way) so I’ll look forward to your updates well into the night.
Hey Angela,
Managed to stay away from the candy bars…but I did have a few sugary sodas!
I guess I’ll be the first to say I feel sorry for you! Hang in there!
Hey Janice,
It is amazing you can stay at work so long-you are great doing the weather now I
heard you telling the news,I need some of your energy. Also I would like to see
you on “DANCING WITH THE STARS.”Have a great weekend thanks for your
reply earlier today.Joyce
Too bad I missed this morning’s show …
Of course, calories don’t count when you’re supposed to be sleeping … esp if you’re getting paid to be wide awake in America … Sugar + caffiene + no sleep = wacky fun …
The Vancouver tornado was a F1 … When I got the email about it, I thought “The Weather Machine is gonna be goin’ into overdrive” … Funny thing was the Wa St Dept of Transportation actually caught the twister on one of their traffic cameras …

I saw you earlier doing the news during Hannity & Colmes and wondered what in the world you were doing still there. I had seen you this morning on Fox & Friends. You are a better woman than I if you can put in those kinds of hours.
I tried to email you pictures from the twister that hit Caledonia, MS yesterday. We received them from a friend who works at Columbus Air Force Base. At any rate, hope you got them cause they were pretty awesome. The power of a tornado is really unbelievable! I think the local news said this was an F-3 at Caledonia.
The other big news of our day is that Oprah was in Meridian, MS today filming her Monday show. (MS is her home state.) She is kicking off a fitness campaign in MS–started with Meridian because our city has already started a “live better, live healthier” campaign. I don’t think, however, that anything from your vending machine would be on the list of approved snacks on that program. Oprah had a crowd of about 4,000 show up–I didn’t get to go since my boss wouldn’t entertain the idea of our shutting down for a few hours to go see Oprah. Oh well, maybe
next time!
Have a good evening!

Hey Gwen!
I’m sorry I never got to see your pics…I did see some on the news though, and I’m constantly shocked at how powerful these storms are and how much damage they can do.
I’ll have to check out the Oprah show. I used to like her so much years ago when she first started. She seemed like a real person…now she seems like a brand, and very full of herself! But that’s just my opinion. I watch from time to time.
Just saw you on the 12:30 update…fabulous job! I agree with Guillaume, very professional indeed!
Are you crazy?! Wow! I haven’t pulled an all nighter since college! Of course there were a couple of times when I had kids in the hospital when I didn’t get a whole lot of sleep. So if you nod off with the cameraman take video of you anyway? That would be fun!
I don’t think I’ve gotten more than 5 hours of sleep a night all week and tomorrow’s going to be another long day around here so I’m heading to bed. Hope you make it!
Hi Janice while watching your weather segment this morning I saw people trying to take advantage of you concerning a website for you so I jumped ahead of them and registered myweathermachine.com for you. I paid $15.95 for it and am giving it to you with no strings attached, just tell me where and I will link it to what ever hosting company you want to host it of coarse you will have to pay the hosting. Let the weather machine rumble!! -Joey
Been sitting here watching for a while wondering where you were and there you are! Looking all wide awake and everything! Way to go!
I feel guilty going to sleep but since I’m not doing anything to help you stay awake anyway I guess it doesn’t matter.
Good night!
Thanks Lynn. I did manage to get about 30 winks in my office between 3am and 5am…it was weird though. I’m glad it’s over!
Janice,
Your dedication will pay off…even if you are doing the weather half asleep…
It must be one of those nights..I can’t sleep..Here it is 12:32 am(central time)and I am on the computer…blogging….
Stay out of those vending machines…One of my favorite healthy snacks…sliced banana with a drizzle of chocolate syrup..mmmmgood..sometimes I add a few nuts and a dollup of lite cool-whip..try it sometime…yum yum..
wishing you the best 24…debbie in tennessee
I stayed away from the vending machines! I’m prouder of that accomplishment than staying awake to do the news! haha!
Janice..correction I meant the overnight news cut-ins not the weather..sorry it’s late..or is it early???
deb
EEkkk!!…Still working??
Janice you are a real trooper…Sounds like you are sounded by a great bunch of people…
But I have no doubt someone would be there for you if you were ill…I remember that very thing happening last late spring when you came down with the flu….
You’re right Dawn. We all chip in for each other when we can!
JD sorry I missed it, I have been too busy with my teens. They keep me running!
Janice you really did a great job all day doing the Weather on FNC.Janice you are the Weather Machine.
