Polar Bears behaving badly!
Happy Hump Day! This week seems to be scooting by. The weekends go way too fast once they get here that’s for sure!
Weather-wise, there’s more in rain and snow in store for the Midwest over the next few days as a front stalls over the region, and the jet stream has set up across the great lakes leading to a very unstable pattern heading into the weekend. Even just a couple of inches of rain will not be welcome news for areas that received over a foot of rain just a week ago. Smaller streams and creeks that have been receding will fill back up again, and it will just delay the process of getting all the rivers back into their banks. Flood warnings are still in place from coastal Louisiana along the Mississippi River up into the Ohio River. Warmer springtime temperatures will also lead to the massive snow-melt over the next few weeks, so this could be a very trying next few months for all those who live along flood prone areas. Oh, and where the temperatures are still cold – several inches of snow will not be welcome news along the Dakotas through Minnesota and Wisconsin! Do any of you live in the Upper Midwest? How are you dealing with the non-stop winter??
There’s also several storms moving into the Pacific Northwest over the next few days bringing rain, wind and mountain snow to the Rockies and eventually some of that energy making its way into the Midwest. I tell ya, if I was in charge of the weather, we’d have sunshine for everyone today!
Ok – on to other news…I was shocked to see this story in the Daily Mail about one of our favorite Polar Bears Knut! He is being very very bad…apparently obsessed by his celebrity! Did we do this to him? Read on and tell me what you think!
Knut the polar bear has turned from a cuddly cub into a publicity-addicted psycho, one of his keepers claimed yesterday.
Markus Roebke said Berlin Zoo’s celebrity animal was obsessed with the limelight and howled with rage when denied an audience.
“Knut must go and the sooner the better,” he said, insisting that the bear should be sent to an animal park where he received less attention.

Hey Rich! I love the Activity Pit! (And I love that there are many of us out there that have the same twisted sense of humor!)
I thought this kind of behavior was only exclusive to grown child stars like Britney Spears and Lidnsey Lohan. Someone’s been slipping poor Knut the tabloid news papers. This is where he picked up his social traits.
Why don’t they set up a mirror where he can see himself but not break it. He probably just wants company, he has had so much attention all his life, he gets lonely for companionship. I don’t think it is an adoring crowd so much, just a companion.
You’re right Ruth. I think they need to put a female in there with him to make more baby Knuts!
What is wrong with Knut wanting attention? Even animals have personalities. As long as he is where he is he will have adoring fans and even keepers. Polar bears instinctually are solitary so I’m not sure he’d like sharing his living space (and attention) with another bear. Somebody is just trying to dramatize something that is not that big of a deal. It is still fun to comment about it!
Maybe Knut needs polar bear re-hab!
