They're only plated chunks of metal ... So, they don't do as much "damage" as all of the bling that the rappers wear around their necks / fingers that ARE solid gold / diamonds ... <b>JD - </b> We had a family friend that competed in the 1972, 1976 & 1980 Summer Olympics ... Err, he was supposed to compete in the 1980 games until some bonehead decided that "we" had to boycott the games to protest Russia's invasion of Afghanistan ... 1980 was the year that our friend was basically guaranteed to win gold medals because his previous strongest competition had all retired & the newcomers were not as strong as he was ... We also attended a number of the competitions at the 1984 Summer Olympics ... It truly was a magical time ... Once you've been to the Olympics, you always want to go back ... How in the world is London going to have a "carbon neutral" torch relay ?? Isn't that physically impossible with the whole burning flame & CO2 produced by the runners, etc ?? Or, from the fires set by Pro-Tibetan protestors in Tibet. ( I've always wondered why people burn down their own neighborhoods in times of protest ) Or how about all harmfull polutants and destruction to our lands that the gold and silver mining (not to mention the making of bronze) will do for all those medals. Stop the Olympics now, I say...........want some gold, visit a jeweler.
