I know someone here mentioned Bryan Adams. That song, "Have i told you lately, that i love you". Very heartwarming. I remember David James Elliot sang part of that song on that show JAG.

Margie-

I dont like many current songs either, it seems like its very hard to hear those classics on the radio anymore, because most of the radio stations are changing into more of a Top 10 Hit format.

I think i heard about Laura's passing from while i was reading the news on the internet.

Do you remember her appearence on CHiP'S, where she played Ponch's girlfriend? I think that was the last episode before that series got cancelled.

I really like powerful songs, that actually make you think about your surroundings, plus they have a good beat where a person can sing along to. Plus a person feels free, like you can take on the world.

It seems like most of todays songs are an enigma, if you know what i mean. Most of them contain cussing, swearing, and the degrading of the female race.

If you look at some of those music videos, it contains nothing but oversexualized images and other rubbish i dont want to mention here. It seems like our traditional morals are being lost.

And i also i dont get this new thing called "Emo Music". Listening to it supposedly makes you cut your arms and multilate yourself. Its really insane.

It was also sad what happened to that drummer from ABBA. It just happened earlier this year, he apparently blead to death in a freak accident, where he fell thru a glass door on his property.

If you also watch Entertainment Tonight, there will be a new movie with Meryl Streep called Mama Mia, and it uses a lot of classic ABBA songs.

Take Care.

Hey Brad,

Laura was very sweet. I wish I did get to meet her but I still have the photo she signed for me with a very special message. I remember when I heard about Laura's death. I think it was one of the Fox News updates during one of the evening shows and Laurie Dhue broke the news. I couldn't believe it.

But on to happier things...I remember all those people/groups you mentioned. I liked Bread a lot. I've never been into rock music much so I liked the quieter music. I also like to understand the lyrics, which most of the time you can't when the people are screaming! My favorite group, although they were around more in the 70's was ABBA. I still enjoy listening to their music. Frida released a Swedish language CD back in 1996 that is so good. She still sounded great then and I'm sure she still does today.

Ah, memories...

Take care,
Margie

Gordon Lightfoot songs always reminded me of the late Jim Croce. I guess it was the sound of his voice.

Anyone here remember Bread, The Eagles, Nicolette Larson, REO Speedwagon, and all those groovy music from the disco era?

Margie-

You must be really lucky to get really close to a famous singer, like Laura Branigan. It must have been a memorable experience. Its reallly tragic that she isnt around anymore. She was only in her late 40s when she passed away from a blood clot in her brain. I remember reading she had signs of a headache days before she died. Who could have predicted it will take her life?

Hey Janice-

I think those records and albums would be a big money maker for you on Ebay if you were to sell some of it on there :)

I recently saw that VH1 One Hit wonder special hosted By William Shatner. ts a very interesting look into all the one hits over the last 30 years. The program is really long, 4 hours to be exact, but if you ever have the time to watch the whole thing, its a time well worth spending :)

Hey Gang,

I couldn't resist chiming in on the 80's topic. I hope everyone checks back in on this tread, although those who don't probably won't be missing much! I just wanted to say that I almost got to meet Laura Branigan after a concert in New Jersey. I went with a college friend who is blind because we were both big fans. My friend Helen could listen to a song a couple times and then play it from memory on the piano and she did a few of Laura's songs that were just beautiful. I've lost touch with her since then, but she was totally amazing. Anyway, we almost talked ourselves backstage after the concert, but Laura was really tired. We did, however, write to her and got a nice personal reply. I was so shocked when she died--she died way too young.

I won't tell you who I was a big fan of because my brothers used to tease me mercilessly and those memories have scarred me for life. (Just kidding--but I still don't want to get teased!) I've met many of my favorite Christian singers over the years and Sara Renner stayed at my house when she did her concert in my church in April, so I'm pretty spoiled! Donna Summer and her husband Bruce Sudano hold a special place in my heart but that's a long story that I won't bore you with. I'm going to see Donna in concert on Saturday so I'm looking forward to that. I'd love to meet her and give her a big hug, but I don't see that happening in this lifetime.

Well, I better be going...Have a great week everyone.

Oh yes. Freeze spray was my best friend too! And blue eyeshadow with thick black eyeliner...lots of gloss too!

Oh Keith Urban! I met him in Houston when I was on a DJ on a country music station. He was so dreamy...huge crush on him. I don't even remember what I said to him I was so star struck! :) I'll see if I can dig that picture up too!
