Wallace Reflects on Conventions Past

FNC anchor Chris Wallace, who The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart apparently kind of likes, reflects on past conventions in Boston Magazine. “The big difference then, was that things actually happened at conventions,” he said.

Wallace’s first convention was 1964. “I was the go-for for Walter Cronkite at the Republican convention in San Francisco,” he said.

And although things “happened” at conventions in the past, he still thinks coverage is important. “Even for the broadcast networks, the convention beats doing a summer game show rerun,” Wallace said. “It’s four nights every four years covering how a party wants to present itself and how a candidate wants to present himself as the possible president is worth doing.”

What Gustav Might Mean for the RNC

We got this very ominous email in the tipbox today:
One unofficial “private” forecast model suggests Gustav will become a “doomsday” hurricane making landfall east of Mobile early next week…

While we hope that’s not the case, the news networks will be keeping a close eye on the storm and in close contact with their weather departments. We’ll be watching the cable channels and broadcast nets as they watch the storm throughout the next week.

FNC “The Place to Be” for Night One of DNC

TV Guy Hal Boedeker thinks “Fox News Channel was the place to be” at the DNC last night.

About the coverage coming out of the keynote speech, Boedeker writes, “Even Brit Hume sounded impressed by Michelle Obama. The talk was unexpected and refreshing. If they were smart, Democratic Party regulars were turning there to see the reviews Mrs. Obama was receiving.”

Meanwhile, despite what Jon Stewart thinks about Karl Rove, New York Magazine finds Rove to be the most popular pundit on the airwaves, even beating out Rush Limbaugh and Stewart himself.
