Janice Dean the Weather Machine

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

In light of all the breaking news unfolding in India, I think this is a harsh reminder of all we should be Thankful for on this day.

I hope everyone tells those around them how much they are loved and appreciated.  We just never know how much time we have on this earth.  I am Thankful I have a wonderful, loving husband, a warm and comfortable home, good friends and family around me, and this year I’m even more thankful for the miracle of being a mother.   My life has taken on a brand new meaning, and just when I thought I had everything in perspective and my priorities in line –  in just one (little) heartbeat, things become even more clear now.  I can’t wait to spend my next Thanksgiving with this incredible gift that is my son.   I feel blessed beyond words today.

Taking a look out the window, thankfully, we have a pretty quiet day in weather.  The storm that was in California is now moving into the Four Corners bringing much needed rain to the parched southwest, however, too much of a good thing is causing some flood concerns in parts of Arizona and New Mexico.  In the higher elevations, snow will pile up along the mountains of Utah, Colorado and New Mexico.  The associated front will branch out across the Central and Southern Plains bringing with it the chance of rain and or isolated thunderstorms.

An area of low pressure north of New York State will bring more snow along the Upper Great Lakes today while the rest of the country will be dominated by high pressure and dry conditions.

If you’re going to be braving the crowds and venturing out to the malls or shopping centers around your neighborhood tomorrow – here’s a peak at your Friday Forecast which is also pretty quiet.

I am also Thankful for the kind and thoughtful people that come and share their lives with us every day on this Blog!  If it weren’t for you –   I don’t think I would find this such an enjoyable, and rewarding experience every day, so Thank You on behalf of myself, and my little Weather Intern! ;)

Thanks, JD. The bird is in the oven, my daughter is watching the parade on television, my son is
playing with his cars, and my wife is preparing dinner while engaging my help for various tasks in
between sneaking a few pages of reading in. My mother is coming over later with 6 pumpkin pies
for the 5 of us! Good grief, mom! Talk about left-overs! We’re all looking forward to our post-dinner
walk at Colonial Williamsburg with the dog to enjoy the fresh air and walk a bit of our dinner off.
Maybe we’ll have some friends over and give them a couple of pies with their coffee this evening.
It’s a joy for me to be working on a new book on the Puritans during Thanksgiving – how appropriate
and fitting!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Tony

Hey Janice,

Happy Thanksgiving!! We all have a lot to be thankful for and we should never take it for granted. I’m sure you and Sean feel especially blessed as you wait for the arrival of your precious little weather intern (and/or future firefighter?) Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. You make this blog very special by adding your personal touch to it and I feel privileged to be a part of it. I keep you and your little guy (and Sean, of course) in my prayers every day. I hope everything goes smoothly for you with the remainder of your pregnancy. I’m sure you get more excited every day as the time draws near. God bless you and your family, Janice. You are very special and I just want you to know that I am very thankful for you.

Now, on a less serious note–I got to see the Rockettes this morning! My parents and I have been watching the parade and we saw the Rockettes right before the parade arrived at Macy’s. I can’t watch any more of it because I need to take a shower soon because we have to leave around noon to get to my brothers’ place. I got to see a bunch of balloons, though, so that was fun. We usually watch the whole thing but it won’t work out today. At least I saw my Rockettes–I love those ladies!!!

I have no idea what’s on the menu at my brothers’ besides the turkey, so I’ll have to provide a full report later this evening when we get back. All I know is that it will be good! I wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. God bless you all!

Hey Margie – glad you got to see the Rockettes! That’s one thing I have yet to do here in NY at Christmas-time. It might have to wait until next year though because I think I would take up 2 seats in the theater! :) Have a great night with your family!

Fife and Drum corps!….Love them…and a specialty in this part of the country…YEARS ago (I was still able to walk)..My brother and mother were part of one for a very short time…

I can remember watching the competing corps at a muster behind Firestation #2 (South Glastonbury were my early years were spent)…

Wonderful and unique sound

Comment by Janice Dean

Hope the parade looked great! We live right around the neighborhood where they “prepare” the balloons so we got a sneak peak this am! :)

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone and Janice too.
Hope you all have a wonderful day, however you choose to spend it!

I am most thankful for family and friends, past and present. So very blessed to have had the ones that have passed, share in our lives!

While we are all hustling and bustling the season away…Say hi with a smile, to a stranger on the street, you may make someone’s day or week for that matter. Sort of a pay it forward type of thing. It does make a difference!

Comment by Janice Dean

Hey Patty! Great things to be thankful for…I gave my cab-driver an extra tip this morning heading into work…I hope that counts for something! :)

Good morning from the midwest JD…………

Omaha today is partly sunny and 35 degrees.

Bird’s in the roaster, casserol’s are cookin, and the dogs are going nuts from all the smells in the house.

Thank you for the kind words of thanks this morning, and here’s hopes that the little Weather Machine Intern is ready for all the great Thanksgiving flavors that are in store.

Comment by Janice Dean

Hey Peter! I love the comment you made about the dogs going crazy from all the yummy smells in the house! Hilarious! My little Weather Machine Intern is sleeping off all the turkey and mashed potatoes I just enhaled at lunchtime here at work! hahaha

Someone that I respect made the comment this morning about how sometime we get so wrapped up with the idea of giving “things” we forget to give “of self”…which is far more valuable…and meaningful…and I bet all the more appreciated….

I loved that…

Comment by Wenchie

Well….The Jolly ‘Ole Elf made it safe and sound….The Belief meter was over the top….and Kermit sang a wonderful song under a replica of the gothic central park bridge….

Hope everyone has a good day….

And send a thought of love and warmth to those who arent…they need the positive energy sent their way…

Comment by Margie Gacki

Hey Dawn,

I happened to catch Kermit, too. I loved Andy Williams, too. They don’t sing like that anymore! We were supposed to be getting ready for the trip to my brothers’ place but my parents and I got stuck watching the end of the parade! We’re going to be a little late getting there but we’re not eating until later in the afternoon so I don’t think we’ll be late for the food, which is a good thing!

I’ve been keeping a lot of people in my prayers because I know there are people who are miserable this time of year. I have a friend whose husband’s kids have nothing to do with him. Seeing how he treats his wife, I can see why the kids don’t stay in touch. It’s a sad thing.

Anyway, I gotta run. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Margie

Andy Williams….Margie I know what you mean!!…Love his voice…and you are right…they dont make many like him now and those that are left are just a few…..

Somehow the holiday season isnt just quite the same without hearing him sing ….!!

Fond memories of watching his Christmas specials when I was a kid….

YOU have a most MUN-DA-FUL Thanksgiving with your folks….and if its not so wonderful for whatever reason (IE your brother’s attitude towards you sometimes)…try your best to just love him and let him be who he is without being poisoned by whatever emotions are floating around….

I know sometime family gathers arent the most pleasant for so many..

But you enjoy the grateful heart you have been blest with Sweetie :D

Happy Thanksgiving, All!
It’s about 11:30 a.m. here and the weather is mild in South Texas. Our friends will be coming over about 2 p.m. so my husband and I are getting ready to wrangle the turkey (that’s what we call getting it ready to go in the oven) and get cracking on the other dishes. Dinner will be ready about 4 or 5 p.m., ya’ll come!! ;)
Tony, how lovely to live in such a historically rich town on this wonderful day. What a perfect place to get writing inspiration!
Janice, I love your sentiments relating to your little weather machine. One of my most cherished memories is when my son was born – all our visitors had left the hospital and I was finally alone with him. I lifted him gently from the bassinet and put him on my chest. He was such a strong little thing and was able to briefly lift his head and he looked at me as if to say, “Hi, mommy, ’bout time we got to be alone to get to know each other.” I’ll never forget it – and now he’s 18, working and going to college, but he’s still my baby. Just yesterday he called me from work to tell me he was coming home on break and could I make him a PB&J!
I wish all of you God’s abundant blessings on this day of giving Thanks.
Go Cowboys!! :)

Yep, Janice we know how you feel. This time last year Allison was just a little peanut and now we are sharing our first Thanksgiving together and a family. Time goes by so fast today is a great day to take some of that time to reflect on the great things we have in our lives.

Turkey is in the smoker and it smells so good.

Take care everyone,

Thank you for your reminder that we should always let our loved ones know how much they mean to us. It is very sobering to watch the news from India and know that life can change in an instant.

Congratulations on your baby boy! We are expecting our first grandchild next spring and can’t wait. We are happy for you.

It was a beautiful Thanksgiving Day in GA – a great day to get outside after eating dinner!!

Thanks Frankie— and congrats on your first grandchild! Such wonderful news!! ;)

Comment by Peter Plumley

Hi JD, All is well in the OV, the OV miss’s JD. :) Some power outages the other day, Ontario Hydro had things back on pretty fast. A lot of snow fell on the trees making them heavy, some wind today which will blow the snow off and lighten the loads.
