Snow storms a-comin’!
Hi everyone.
Still haven’t really decided what we’re going to do with the blog while I’m on mommy duty…however, while I’m at home I can certainly check in and talk weather, so we’ll take it day by day, and see how it goes.
First off, let’s talk about the storm system that’s pounding the Midwest right now (particularly the Chicago area) and will eventually spread a wide swath of heavy snow over the Great Lakes, Mid Atlantic and Northeast. 4-6 inches of new snow will not be uncommon for many states in the storm’s path with some localized spots getting close to a foot by tomorrow night, and impact many of the big cities from Chicago to Detroit, through Pittsburgh and even NYC! (Which I am very excited about!)
Here’s a look at the watches and warnings across the U.S…and the flight delays…

There is good news for the soaking wet and weary Pacific Northwest with high pressure set to build in over the region, and an end to the flooding/snow totals for the short term. However, it’s going to take some time for those rivers and streams to start to recede. Many of which have crested at close to or above record flood stage.
The same high pressure bringing the dry conditions to the Northwest will also unfortunately bring the threat of Santa Ana winds back to Southern California this weekend with wind gusts in excess of 60 mph in the mountains. High fire danger will continue for the next few days and red flag warnings have been posted.
I’m also curious to see if any of you have tried to post pictures lately via the the link on the right hand side of this page? I’m going to send an email again to see if the tech folks have fixed it.
Ok, that’s it for now from my couch and many pillows that are strategically placed around me right now!
I’ll post an open blog for the weekend shortly!

Hey Janice,
They must have just fixed the link today because when I tried it last night it didn’t work. It is working now at 2:15 p.m. At least the information is there to fill in. I’m at work so I don’t have a picture to send. At least it’s better than seeing a blank screen.
Depending on what forecast you read for my area, tomorrow we could either have a light wintry mix turning to rain or 1-3 inches of snow. I think I’ll take the light wintry mix turning to rain! I’ll be home tomorrow so I really don’t care what it does.
I hope you are enjoying your relaxation on your sofa with all those pillows! Once your little one arrives there won’t be much time for that! My friend Lisa asked about you at lunch today. She watches Fox News a lot but she doesn’t have time to blog. I’ve been keeping her updated on your condition. Take care of yourself and know that you’re in my thoughts and prayers.

Our noon local news has dubed the storm “Carlos” and right now they are saying 4-8″….I just came in from the store to get the few items I may need while I wait for that stuff to melt….(they clean off the sidewalks ok…but the cutouts get buried in the snow that is plowed in the parking lots….)
And it looks like its going to be cold enough in the upcoming week that melting will be limited….
There is one day next week that is suppost to be quite cold as of right now…..
Are you going to send some white stuff down our way in Williamsburg? My son was demanding
that it snow since the temperature was 24 degrees on the way to school and “cold enough for snow,”
as he put it.
Tony
JD, just worry about taking care of yourself. I remember those “strategically placed” pillows. Mine were behind my back and under my tummy. I look forward to doing it again if we are so blessed. Maybe Jill could post open blogs for us if it’s that big of a deal?
It’s 2:00 and I haven’t had lunch yet. We slept until after 10 (when Elizabeth woke us up). so it was late breakfast too.
I just sent in the pics from Dawn’s New Years Eve Shout-out so the link must work now. Of course that does not mean that Janice got them. lol
I would like to see some snow in the North Carolina mountains so I can break out the cross country skiis. Live is easier when it snows only in the mountains, here in town it is wild. People hear the S word and run to the store to buy bread and milk, as a Michigander I have never understood this. It is only 2 hours to the mountains so it is an easy day trip.
Have a great weekend to all.
Janice,
YOU AINT LYING lol. The local ABC meteorologist said 4-8 inches then I heard 3-7 now it looks like oh 2-4. Thank goodness that work let me go 10 minutes early because the roads here are BAD!!!!
Dawn,
Carlos as your locals are calling him is the one that pounded me today YIKES!!!!! Hunker down.
Come on warmer weather
Janice, You posting gives us a peace of mind if nothing else!!
not that i feel like a stalker or anything *L* but you understand!
Kelly…the 5pm update on Carlos is 5-10″….since that is quite a range I am hoping 530 report will be a bit more specific by areas of the state…
Kelly….just got the 530 snow predictions….In live in the southern part of Hartford county….the city of Hartford to the north of me the models are showing 8.4″…Meridan to the south of me is predicted to get 9.2″….
So here me is….somewhere in the middle
!!
Just a suggestion, Janice, on the “what to do about the blog” question:
Perhaps you could enlist someone at work to post an Open Blog every Monday and Friday. They wouldn’t have to write commentary, but could if they wanted. Then you could check in if you wanted, but wouldn’t feel compelled to if you didn’t want to. Like I told you before, this blog should be way down on your list of priorities for the coming weeks and I know none of we regulars will be offended if you devote every moment to your new family!
Anyway, glad you are following doctors orders and getting lots of rest. All hail the inventor of the couch (as well as the recliner)!!
