Hey Janice,

The Giants and Eagles are both rivals of the Redskins, but seeing that the Redskins are nowhere to be found in the playoffs, I’ll be cheering for the Giants along with you! For some reason they’re easier to cheer for than the Eagles, so I hope they do well. I just looked at the clock so I better get my TV tuned into the game so I can cheer them on.

a SB giants vs steelers…

I can handle that :)

Comment by wenchie

Well looks like the giants are going down

I’ve been flipping back and forth between the game and the David Foster tribute show on PBS (the music composer)

He made the comment about his passion for his work

“I work on weekends because I know if I don’t someone else will”

Ah musicians….they eat breathe and sleep the deep love affair they have with their mistress Ms Music Muse!!!

I’m sorry! Was at church during the game…was really shocked when I came home and saw the score! Hey, at least your team made it this far!

Janice, do you realize that right above your head in this photo is the greatest city in the world — and my hometown: Chicago!

Rock on, Chicago!

Margie–

Couldn’t agree with your post more. I was rooting for the Giants only because the Redskins aren’t anywhere to be found as well. Now I am rooting for San Diego simply because Norv Turner is their coach.

Sorry Janice for the Giants…
but hey you look so BEAUTIFUL and full of life in that picture! :)
Go Janice!!!

Yesterday, I watched “In the Land of Women” (2007) on HBO. This film starred Adam Brody, Olympia Dukakis, Meg Ryan, and Kristin Stewart.

Meg Ryan once again is captivating — and so are Adam Brody, Olympia Dukakis, and Kristin Stewart. You’ll remember Adam Brody from “O.C.”, but Kristin Stewart is a relative newcomer. She is only 19 years old.

As you can tell by the female cast members I’ve named, Brody’s character is surrounded by women belonging to three different generations. His character’s charm and innocence and the tension between these women drives this film along.

This is a film I’ll watch again.

Julia,

If San Diego wasn’t playing Pittsburgh, I would definitely be rooting for them because I like Norv Turner, too, as well as L. Tomlinson. (I abbreviate his first name so I don’t misspell it!) Too bad L.T. isn’t playing in this game. I’m a really big Steelers fan since I live only a few hours away, so I have to root for them. It’s really hard when Pittsburgh plays Washington!

Janice,

I’m sorry the Giants didn’t win. I was rooting for them but Eli had an off day today. That was disappointing and hard to watch. Hopefully they’ll get another chance next year.

Go Steelers!

Ok to all football experts out there…

Has there even been a super bowl where the Pennsylvania teams have faced off???
If so the results???

Are they known for a huge rivalry al la Mets and Yankees sort of deal??

Just curious

Comment by Margie Gacki

Hey Dawn,

I just checked a list of all the Super Bowl games and the two Pennsylvania teams have never played each other. One thing I learned that surprised me is that the Eagles have never won a Super Bowl. They were in a couple that they lost and I think the Steelers have won 5, if I remember correctly.

Go Steelers!

I wont rub salt into the wound. Hey my team (Bears) choked on the last day of the season much to Chas’s delight. LOL! It does set up as a very competitive yet hard hitting defensive battles next week.

Philadelphia @ Arizona

and

Baltimore @ Pittsburgh

I’m not going to release my picks till Friday like I do with my e-mailers. Sorry about the Giants I had their Defense in both my fantasy leagues this year in fact won one of them. My cousins I think he set it up that way HA! I love getting to spring but man the layoff is hard for me. I usually wind up having to do stuff but with 4 milestone birthdays coming up I have a feeling I will be busy.

Great picture JD. :) Giants lose? oh well. I never follow football except the football commericals at the Superbowl. I’m Canadian I follow hockey. :)

David Foster, great Canadian and humble in person, had the chance to meet him many years ago think it was 1992.

Janis, so sorry that the Giants could not cut the mustard yesterday. Baltimore, Pittsburg and a few other teams have loaded up on giants and muscles. Not fair.

Do not appreciate your comments about the Red Skins. They are angles, you know. I can handle all unless the sorry Cow Boys start winning. Sinc the Redskins lost their original quarterback/kicker/defnesive player to death, we will have to recreate a copy. Maybe we can get his genes into some appropriate female and product another.

Great Quarterbacks do not play well in bad, cold weather. Forgive them for they know not what they do.

Pete, age 82 and still working. Good luck, keep informing us of or weather expectations and stay pretty.
(See how Ol’ Men are?)

Can’t speak in small pieces either at 82 and still working and admiiring pretty women, what can one expect. Keep up the good work. Pete

Hey Margie –

Well, as much as it pains me to say this (since I am a dyed-in-the-wool Skins fan) I think I’ll be pulling for your beloved Steelers this weekend!

Janice –

You’re not alone in your post-game depression today! Have a relaxing week as you get ready for your little one!

Hey Gang,

This blog has been way too quite today! Is everyone in mourning because the Giants lost? I heard one of the commentators make an interesting comment yesterday. He said that the Giants were never the same after dopey Burress got himself into trouble. I’m sure that was a big distraction for them.

I hope everyone has a great week. It sounds like we’ll be taking a polar plunge later in the week. I can’t remember what day it is, but they’re calling for lows around 0-5 degrees one night. I don’t like that at all! I guess I shouldn’t complain about it only being 34 today. That’s a heat wave compared to 0 degrees!

I hope everyone stays safe and warm this week!

Hey Julia,

I’m glad someone else is on the blog today–it’s been quiet! The Redskins are my #1 team but I also love the Steelers, which is really good because if one team messes up, I hope the other one does better. At least I still have someone to root for in the playoffs since the Skins imploded the second half of the season. When the two teams play each other I always root for the Skins since they have my first loyalty. Oh well, maybe next year. (I think I’ve heard that before!)

OK, Margie, I’ll post something.

Experiencing some back pain today so I’m doing my PT exercises and took a strong muscle
relaxant this afternoon (somehow still awake, but I don’t know if any of this makes sense!). I’ll
be OK. Just need to run through my exercises and stop carrying around boxes of my book.

Speaking of which, that’s what gave me the back pain when I carried a number of boxes of
books to a semi-annual meeting of the Knights of Columbus in Richmond and signed 60 books -
my best day of signing books to date! It was great to sign books for all of those patriotic
Catholic gentlemen. Set up several lectures and events too.

Spent a nice day with the kids yesterday and our marriage group last night, which we hosted.

Just working away on the Boston Smallpox Epidemic book. I found out it will probably be released
in October. But, it’s due in March so I better hop to (or at least walk quickly with my back!)!

Have a great day all!

Hey Margie,
Boy….the blog is really quiet today. Guess alot of folks are nursing their disappointment regarding yesterday’s game. Not a stellar day for the Giants….now all of the guys I pull for are out of it (the Mannings and Brett Favre). Time to go home and get ready for next year. I guess I’ll try to cheer on Arizona, since Kurt Warner has always been a favorite in our home too.

It’s been kind of an odd weekend…I don’t feel too chipper this day, but the sun is shining and it’s 52 here. That should be a good enough cause to celebrate.

Hope you stay bundled up and warm for the next few days. Sounds like some really cold temps headed your way. (Dawn, you too stay warm and close by your fire.)

Must run as duty calls. I’ll check back later.

There is life on the blog! It sounds like we have a health, peppy bunch here–NOT! Tony, I can relate to straining your back when lifting heavy boxes. That’s painful! Before I became a full-time librarian I had a job as an assistant manager in a toy store and I messed up my back really bad unloading inflatable pool toys from the truck. Those inflatable things don’t seem too heavy when you’re floating in a pool on one, but they way a ton when boxed up–OUCH! I had pain killers and muscle relaxants after that ordeal. For being under the influence of a muscle relaxant, your post made perfect sense. Those things do knock you for a loop but they are effective. At least you hurt it while experiencing a success. That makes it a little easier to bear! I do hope you recover quickly.

Gwen,

Since I like Kurt Warner I’ll definitely be rooting for the Cardinals this weekend. It will be really tough if they play the Steelers in the Super Bowl! I’m a big Brett Favre fan, too, so I was disappointed the Jets didn’t make the playoffs. I hope you perk up a little. Sometimes it’s hard to get going on a Monday so I hope that’s what’s causing your “chipper-less” mood. I wish we had 52 degrees even with clouds. We haven’t been close to that for quite some time.

Well, I hope everyone recovers from their various aches and pains and whatever else. I’m determined to have a better week this week than I did last week. Hang in there everyone.

Hi Everyone.
Tony, you’ll like this, given your current situation:
The hubby likewise is going to physical therapy for a problem shoulder, in fact he had an appointment this morning. He called me afterwards to tell me that he’d been shown some new exercises to be done with extremely light weights and wanted to know if I have some 1 or 2 lb. dumbbells. Well, in fact, I do, so he doesn’t have to stop at a sporting goods store to get some; however, I haven’t mentioned to him yet that they are hot pink in color!! LOL Hey, one of the secrets of my marriage is laughter – at least one of us will be laughing, right?!?!?!
Have a good afternoon, All.

Comment by Margie Gacki

Hey Gina,

As I read your post about your husband needing weights and that you had some, before I got to the rest of your post, I was thinking that they’d probably be pink! You’ll have to take a picture of him working out with the hot pink dumbbells! I do hope he recovers quickly from his shoulder problem.

I’m with you about next season for the Redskins, Margie! Gotta get back to work now — have a great afternoon and evening, all!

Pink 1-2 lb. weights, huh? Now that’s one manly-man! I wish I could lift that much!

Actually, I feel like a helpless baby. My wife is lifting everything, and my back almost
went completely out carrying my books and computer from the coffeehouse over to my
car. So, I’ve spent most of the day doing my stretches, back exercises, and crunches
on the floor. I’m helping my son with “p” words since his pre-school class is working on
words that begin with that letter and he has to fill a bag full of P stuff. We’ve got a list
of about 75 words. Do you think you could add to the list? Obviously nothing like penal
colony – just stuff you can find around the house. Let the contest begin!

Tony

Comment by Margie Gacki

Hey Tony,

The first “p” word that came to mind was pistachio nuts. I guess that’s because I like to eat! You probably already have powder, a penny, and potato chips on your list. How about Pepto Bismol? You might need that after you eat too many pistachio nuts! I guess a piano would be a little big to fit into a bag! Other things I can think of are penne pasta (or any pasta for that matter), pinking shears, picture frame (or just pictures), putty, and parcheesi (or a piece from the game, anyway). I can think of more than that but it’s probably stuff you have already. This is a lot to ask of someone with already impaired brain cells, but maybe I came up with something you haven’t thought of. Have fun!

What can I say, that man of mine is just trying to be all he can be!! ;)

Just love those preschool/kinder projects!! How about pineapple, a plant, a present for the teacher (it’s never too early to make points with the teacher, after all!), a paperback, peanuts, petals of a flower, silly putty, a pillow or a pretty picture???? I like the pasta idea too, Margie!

Have a great evening, Friends!

Comment by Tony Williams, Author, "Hurricane of Independence"

Ladies,

I love it! Lots of new words we had not thought of – powder, pistachio (one of my favorite
too and we do have some!), potato chips (ran out of those!), putty, parcheesi (don’t have it!),
pineapple, petals, or paperback (we have LOTS of those but not the Hurricane of Independence
yet). Great job. My son loves maps so he got Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Pennsylvania quickly
and used pieces of his wooden puzzle and a refrigerator magnet for Independence Hall (I know,
I know, I’m a geek! :) ).

Keep ‘em coming. I ruled out Pack of cigarettes (don’t have any anyway!), Peppermint schnapps, and Potty because people would get upset. It is pre-school after all.

Tony

Comment by Margie Gacki

Hey Tony,

Peppermint schnapps probably isn’t a good idea, but how about a peppermint patty? Pickles just came to mind, too, but that may be a little messy. I just had my dinner, so I think my brain is getting back in gear. Here are a few others I just thought of: pine cone, pin, a “pet rock”, paint set, pumpernickel bread, pinto bean, peas or pea soup, party hat, plastic, etc. Well, that’s all for now. I’ll see if anything else pops into my mind!

Margie

Comment by Tony Williams, Author, "Hurricane of Independence"

Margie,

You’re too much! Ha! :)

Peppermint Patty is a good one, and we had not thought of pine cones, pins, pumpernickel,
or plastics. The others are on the list in some form or another. I’ll put the frozen peas in
a plastic bag tomorrow. The paint set is in there with a paintbrush. He loves pickles so we’ll
put one of those in there – he can eat it after the presentation. My wife buys those nasty
butter something or other pickles rather than dill. Yuck!

Lots of great ideas and fun postings. Thanks for joining in the fun!

Tony
