TD 11 forms
Hey everyone. Well, a bit of a November surprise – a tropical depression has formed in the SW Caribbean that will probably become Tropical Storm Ida this afternoon once the hurricane hunters go out and investigate. Ida’s path is a little uncertain, but there will be heavy rain in the forecast for Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. Here’s the official track and some of the computer models courtesy of www.wunderground.com:

There’s a chance that some of soon-to-be-named Ida’s remains will move into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend…we’ll have to wait and see. Hurricane season officially ends at the end of November, and this has been one of the quietest years in decades (which is great news for those who live in hurricane-prone zones!)
In other weather news, the northeast will feel the results of two storms – one moving across the great lakes today and a coastal low that will bring rain, wind and snow starting tomorrow into Friday. If there is a game 7, this could cause some problems if the Yankees don’t win tonight. (Tonight’s weather looks great – some clouds and temperatures in the low 50s with light winds)
A storm moving into the Pacific Northwest will bring an end to above average temperatures across the west and also push in some impressive rain totals in the next 48 hours. Some spots could get several inches of rain and quite a bit of snow for the Cascades.
In other news, my husband had the honor of taking a tour of the USS New York yesterday with some of his Firefighter brothers. I’m sure you’ve heard about this fantastic vessel that contains 7.5 tons of steel that was saved from the Twin Towers after 9-11. He couldn’t believe how beautifully crafted the ship was, and took many pictures which I will post tomorrow. I know Fox and Friends will be broadcasting live tomorrow morning on the USS New York as well with Gretchen, Steve and Brian. It’s a fitting way to remember those we lost on that day, and in some ways keep their memories alive.
If you’re in the New York city area this weekend or early next week, you can try to take a tour of the Ship located at Pier 88 at 12th Avenue and West 48 Street at the following times:
Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m.
Sunday, 9 a.m. to noon
Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Tuesday, Nov. 10, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 11, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Here’s a picture courtesy of the AP, and I’ll post an inside view tomorrow on the blog.

I understand the pilot who brought it in from Ambrose Light had a brother who was a fireman and was killed in tower 2. That was quite an honor for him.
I have two relatives on a cruise ship who are probably in that storm. They were to be in Panama today and Columbia in a couple days. I’d bet the ship went else ware.
I just realized some on this blog may not know that every ship that comes into NY has a harbor pilot who brings it into the NY harbor from a place called Ambrose Light House
Hey Janice,
I caught a story on the news yesterday about the USS New York. I thought about Sean when I saw the story. That ship is impressive. I wish I’d have a chance to see it but that’s out of the question. I’m glad they used that steel for something so wonderful. What a fitting tribute.
On the weather front (no pun intended!) we had a cold morning this morning. It got down to 31 degrees. It’s only around 48 now so it didn’t warm up too much. I hate that it’s getting dark early but it’s nice to have some light early in the morning. That probably won’t last long, but at least it’s not completely dark when I get up. The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend, which is good because the health system is having some major festivities at the new hospital. There’s a gala on Friday evening for all the big donors. Then on Saturday is an open house for health system family and friends and Sunday is for the general public. Those days should show the State Highway Administration how stupid it was to install roundabouts in front of the hospital instead of traffic lights. I’m going early Saturday morning so hopefully the traffic won’t be too bad. I have no faith in Cumberland drivers and with no one knowing where they’re going, it should be an adventure!
Hey to all the other bloggers out there! I hope everyone is having a great day. I better get back to work because I found out my office (not the libraries) will be moving on 11/13 instead of the following week–how fun!

Afternoon Janice and all,
Hope everyone is having a good day. Mine is (as usual on Wednesday) very busy. We’ve actually started re-hiring some previous employees for a couple of new contracts that’ll have us working at full blast for the next year. They’re interesting projects, but I’m not too sure how much info I would be allowed to give on them. Guess I’d better not say too much.
I too was very impressed by the USS New York when I saw her earlier in the week. I’m looking forward to F&F in the morning to see even more of her. Only once have I seen in person a military ship coming into harbor…in Hawaii. We were at Hickam Air Force Base at the time. It is the one of the most thrilling sights, with all the sailors and marines standing round the ship as she enters the harbor. It absolutely made me have chills to see it. It was almost as good as seeing a C-130 land and taxi in…knowing that it held either my husband or my son.
Beautiful day here, but warmer than yesterday. Should be in mid 70s today and slightly cooler tomorrow. Lovely blue sky days.
Don, hang in there. We’re all pulling for you. Will continue to keep you in my prayers.
Must run….gotta get these guys paid.
Catch y’all later!
Gwen
I’ll be on board Friday for work related business and will have them give me the 5 cent tour. I already have one of the ships coins made from some of the metal from the towers. See if you can snag one Janice!
You’re right, Janice!
Anyone living in or near New York City should visit the USS New York. I haven’t been on a ship in a long, long time. Wish I could fly to NYC to see it!
