Tropical Storm Ida…Other system kills 124 in El Salvador
Hi everyone
We’re full steam ahead on Tropical Storm Ida which is weakening thankfully as it barrels towards the Gulf Coast. I expect the system to make landfall overnight somewhere between Mobile and Pensacola. Ida’s legacy will be heavy rain over an already soaking southeast. 4-8 inches of rain will fall causing some major problems as Ida moves inland. There are indications that Ida will move across into the Atlantic again this week, and become a strong nor’easter for the northeast coast…so we’ll be talking about this storm for much of the workweek. You can see the latest track HERE (The National Hurricane Center will update this information every couple of hours as the storm gets closer to land.
Meanwhile, right around the time Ida was a tropical storm, we had a tropical disturbance on the west coast of Central America that killed 124 people (so far) with dozens missing in El Salvador. I think a lot of the news wires were blaming these deaths on Ida, but that’s not accurate as Ida only really affected Nicaragua and Honduras. Pacific moisture was pulled into the mountains of El Salvador, and therefore major flooding affected residents in this region. Hopefully we won’t see a death toll like this from Ida.
I’ll check in a little later to give you another update, and say hello!
JD

Hey Janice,
I hope the remnants of Ida don’t come up this way because I am moving on Thursday and I don’t want to get wet! I hope it stays off the coast far enough. I am glad that it weakened to a tropical storm but they can do plenty of damage, too.
I hope you had a nice weekend and got to tour the USS New York. Our weekend weather was absolutely spectacular. I was out in a t-shirt yesterday it was so warm. It’s not as warm today but still mild for November.
Hey Gwen, I saw your post on the other thread last night. That special recognition for the veterans at your church service sounded really special. I’m glad your church did something special to remember the brave men and woman who have fought, and are currently fighting, for our country. My church is working on something for next weekend. They usually do it before the holiday but I think there was a scheduling issue. I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with.
Hey to all the other bloggers out there! I hope everyone’s week is off to a good start. I’m still cleaning out files and things today. I hope they bring my packing crates soon so I can get started on that.
Well, I better get back to my cleaning. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel so that’s encouraging.
Have a great afternoon everyone!
Margie
Hey Margie…I think you’ll be ok for the move..what’s left of Ida will say offshore. Is it Friday yet?????
it feels like Wednesday already….
Hey JD and everyone else!
Hope everybody’s Monday is going good. Looks like Ida is going to bear down on top of about 40 of my guys working near Milton, FL, or about 15 of my guys working near Mobile, AL. Either way…looks like they’re gonna get pretty well soaked. We’ve got wind warnings here for tonight and into tomorrow. Have to wait and see how things go. We’re not expecting anything too bad since Ida is taking a sharp easterly turn. We may get some heavy rains and wind that could topple trees since we’ve had a good bit of rain in the last several weeks. We’ll just have to wait and see.
Margie, Yes, our Vets’ Day service was great. Hope your church has a good one as well! Good luck with your move also.
Don, I continue to keep you in my prayers too. My very best thoughts are with you.
Think I’ll go find some lunch now. I’m starving…well, technically not starving, but very hungry.
Catch y’all later!
Gwen
Hey Gwen. Hope everyone was dressed appropriately for IDa’s visit! this storm has more bark than bite me thinks. I’m hungry too. I’m always hungry!
Thanks Gwen. I need all the prayers I can get.
My son-in-law and grandson went to the Giants game Sunday. On Saturday they tried to tour the SS New York but could not get tickets.
When I asked them where they parked the motor home they said a campground in Jersey City which struck me funny. They could see the Statue of Liberty from there campsite. Unless things have changed I wouldn’t stay or travel in Jersey City unless I was in a armored truck.
Hey Don! I’m sorry your son in law couldn’t get in to see the SS New York. I’m not a big fan of camping…unless someone delivers room service!
Just came back from the vet. Rolex went for her yearly exam and shots and heart worm meds. 20 minutes $229.45 and she needs her teeth cleaned $300.00. Was in the wrong business.
Yup. I’ve heard vet bills are CRAZY. Some folks get pet insurance! I think even Fox offers pet insurance since so many people have furry family…
Don…
Just think of it as in an investment and testimony as to how much you love her
That is what I do when I get the vet bill on any of my 3 cats…
I look at them and tell them I love them very very much!
And BOY are they LUCKY!! (actually I am the one who is lucky to have 3 loving and affectionate cats)
WOW that looked like to be some storm!!!! What a weekend for me it was started Friday night met up with a few friends for pizza in the Western Burbs of Chicago. Near where I grew up. Saw a friend I havent seen in 18-20 years there abouts. It was like 20 years never passed and we just picked up where we left off the last time we saw each other. Shes living in San Diego now (what a tough decision) to leave Chicago for a week in the winter and or spring to So Cal? HMMM Wheres those tix LOL! My goodness these reunions have been great for me!
That must’ve been a fun weekend. I have a couple of friends that date back 20-30 years that I still keep in touch with. It’s so fun to talk about the “good ole days”…Good to hear from you Kelly!
Your sure up early today Janice.
Yup…too early!
