Watching 2 storms…

Hello everyone.

Trying to keep my eyes open today,  as I was up many times last night with Matthew.   My husband took him to the doctor this morning, and he has an ear infection.  :(   Thankfully we got it in time, and hopefully he’ll start to feel better after he gets some medicine in his system.  Mom is not good at staying composed when she hears her little guy is sick.   I’ve been thinking of him all morning while at work.  I can’t wait to run home and give him a big hug later this afternoon.  And speaking of mommy news,  I just found out that Julie Banderas is expecting in the spring!  I’m so so excited for her, and the amazing journey she is on..more little “fox-casters” to add to our big fox family!

In weather-land, we’ve got two systems are impacting the country today. One across the Pacific Northwest that’s bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Over 5 inches of rain has fallen in some localized areas across the Washington Coastline.  Winds in excess of 75 mph have prompted high wind and avalanche warnings for the Seattle mountains where warm temperatures and the strong winds are loosening the new snowpack.  Flood warnings, and high surf advisories are also in effect as  another storm is set to move into this region later on this week bringing more of the same.

Meanwhile, a system parked across the central U.S. is bringing more heavy rain for the midwest and Mississippi Valley.  Snow totals of up to a foot have been recorded in parts of Kansas and Missouri.  Flood advisories are up along the storms path which should eventually include the great lakes and northeast later on this week.

I have some pictures to post, which I will get to later on today!
P.S. I checked my face before I left home today, and was pleased that there was no toothpaste ring! :) HAHA!

Bill Starr’s Beebe Hill

Beautiful pics from Bill on Beebe!

From Richard and Karen in the U.K!

Here’s what Richard writes:

I hope you can use any of these photos I took recently this summer where I work.  It’s part of my area I cover as a track patrolman called Box Hill; the station is Box Hill & West Humble.  It’s a typical representation of a country quiet station.  Very creepy in the dead of winter!

CUTE BREAK!

I forgot to add this photo to the bunch yesterday…but I think it’s worth its own separate post!

Erika Fizzles…Weather helps firefight

Hi everyone

Well, I was up a lot last night and have that sick tired feeling you get when you haven’t had a lot of shut-eye!  There were sirens going off around the neighborhood for some reason, and we had the windows open.  We all woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep.  I told my husband this is a sign that we all have to move out of the city.    I can’t believe we’re going to be homeowners (fingers crossed!) I finally feel like a grown-up.

In weather news, things are looking good for the weekend.  Tropical Storm Erika is wimping out and is forecast to become just a remnant low out in the Atlantic.  There’s still going to be a lot of wet weather for parts of the Caribbean, but doesn’t look like Erika will make an appearance for Labor Day plans across the U.S.  And firefighters will get a bit of a break from the heat this weekend as temperatures drop and humidity goes up over Southern California.   Jimena is forecast to become a depression today and then a remnant low tomorrow.  Heavy rain, flooding and breezy conditions will be the primary impacts from the storm.  Luckily, resorts along southern Baja escaped without major damage.

Ok I’m going to wrap this up so I can join in on the comments!

Monday…Monday…

Hi everyone

I’m a slow poke today.  Not much sleep over the weekend.  Little Matthew is teething, and he may have an ear infection.  He was up every hour or so Saturday and Sunday night crying and tugging at his ear.  I have a doctor’s appointment with him this afternoon, so hopefully we’ll find out what’s going on.

I see a lot of comments over the weekend, so I’ll try to get to some of them before I head to the docs.  I’m glad you guys like to chat with one another when I’m on baby duty :)

In weather news, we had some pretty big storms last night across the Northeast and Midatlantic yesterday and last night.   A frontal boundary will bring the risk for more strong to severe storms today.    Showers and thunderstorms will spark over the south plains as well as that  boundary stretches all the way back into the southern plains.

Another system pushing across the Midwest will bring the threat for dangerous storms this afternoon, and then tomorrow through the central Great Lakes and Ohio River Valley.

The other big story is the extreme heat across the Northwest in areas that don’t typically see 90-100 degree heat.   Dangerous heat advisories are up for areas including Seattle and Portland.  Along with the hot weather, fire danger will also be a concern for this region.

We took a couple of pictures of my little 6 month old (when he was feeling better!) on Friday.  Here’s a couple!  Wish me luck today…

Half way thru the week!

Hey everyone

Hope you’re having a great week so far.  I wasn’t off yesterday – I worked the “late shift”  (Prime Time), and due to the MJ coverage, I had a pretty easy evening.  I did watch the Memorial Service which I thought was very well organized and just the right length.  There was a lot of speculation that it might turn into a “circus”, but it was just the opposite, and tastefully done.

A pretty quiet weather week, which I am thankful for!  (Especially here in the northeast where we’ve been enjoying spectacular weather aside from a few hit or miss showers yesterday).  It’s still hot across the south, and thanks to a stubborn frontal boundary draped across the southeast from the Carolinas back into the Central Gulf States, strong to severe storms will continue to bring heavy rain, the possibility for hail, damaging winds and or isolated tornadoes.   There’s also the risk for nasty storms from the Intermountain West into the Northern Plains this afternoon.  Wet weather is also keeping the umbrellas in business over the Upper Midwest, Ohio River Valley and the Northern Plains.

I’ll check in a little later to see what you guys are chatting about.  I tried to respond to your comments the other day, but WordPress was cranky, and not letting me in!
